* The main rivers of the Dordogne
The rivers have made the reputation of the Dordogne by their exceptional scenery and privileged views of the most beautiful castles of the Dordogne and their 150 km dedicated to the safe practice of recreational canoeing. The rivers of the Périgord tell the story of 400,000 years of history. Privileged communication axes by the people of this territory since the dawn of time, the rivers offer themselves today to the rowers in a wonderful invitation to travel.
* The Dordogne River
The Dordogne River is one of the mythical rivers that crosses the Quercy causses and the cliffs of the Périgord. The Dordogne valley is located on the paths leading to Santiago de Compostela, with in particular the Sanctuary of Notre Dame de Rocamadour (Grand Site de France). In the Perigord in Dordogne, it is impossible to miss the limestone cliffs, dotted with cave habitats. Finally At the detours of its wide meanders, is erected the medieval city of Sarlat, classified city of Art and History, which reveals 1000 years of history. The Dordogne offers many activities: fishing, swimming, canoeing during the summer season, and duck hunting in winter. Canoes are, by convention, only allowed to sail on the river between 9am and 6pm.
* The Vézère River
La Vézère, a tributary of the Dordogne, is the cradle of the human presence in Europe (UNESCO World Heritage Site) as well as the international pole of prehistory which concentrates exceptional archaeological and prehistoric sites. The Centre International de l'Art Pariétal de Montignac-Lascaux has been hosting the complete reproduction of the Lascaux cave since 2016. You can admire an original scenography, placed under the sign of high technology, which testifies to the original cave of Lascaux (discovered in 1940) and visited by a million visitors between 1948 and 1963, date of its closure.
